Wall*e: Green Propoganda

How did they manage to make this movie without any drowning polar bears?

Pixar's latest offering, Wall*e, is nothing short of an all-out propoganda film for the Church of Environmentalism. Pixar pulls out all the stops, utilizing their dazzling animation, clever story-telling -- including a minor love story -- all in an effort that would make the KGB balk and Leni Riefenstahl blush. (No I'm not comparing Pixar with the Nazis. This is a comparison of propoganda efforts)

Wall*e is the cinematic love-child of R2D2 and Number Five. R2D2 was the apex of Star Wars. George Lucas showed that a robot can be a character actor and he did in within the first eleven minutes of the movie. Too bad he lost that talent.

The movie's theme can be summed up thusly: people need to turn off the TV, exercise, eat right, engage with each other, take care of the environment, stop creating garbage (I assumed they meant other than Hollywood movies), stop polluting, stand up to authority, and...did I miss any major Green themes? Doesn't matter, they are all in there.

Of course, standing up to authority is only applicable when the Greens are not in charge, otherwise it would be heresay.

If you plan to take the kiddies to this movie expect to have them lecture you about your evil un-Green ways for weeks afterwards.

Weather In The Time of Global Warming

This is what passes for summer weather here in the Great Northwest. What with all the Glowball Worming going on, we better hope things don't get any worse.
